Tanega's rare debut album, reissued in on CD, isn't bad, though it's not a major effort, and seems like it could have benefited from more polish in the vocal department especially."Walkin' My Cat Named Dog" is here, of course, and the only track virtually any listener would know. Many of the cuts have a peculiar, if only in retrospect, blend of folky guitar and harmonica with full New 8/

to Walkin’ My Cat Named Dog went to #22 on trappings, Norma Tanega was not an artist destined to stay at the top of the charts for long; her voice was unconventional, and her songs were too idiosyncratic, not sticking to typical song structure or even meter (for example, “No Stranger Am I” is set to a 5/4 time signature). In fact, Tanega.

But, despite the album’s folk-pop trappings, Norma Tanega was not an artist destined to stay at the top of the charts for long; her voice was unconventional, and her songs were too idiosyncratic, not sticking to typical song structure or even meter (for example, “No Stranger Am I” is set to a 5/4 time signature).

Crewe signed her to his New Voice label, and success was instantaneous: the title song to Walkin' My Cat Named Dog went to #22 on the charts. But, despite the album's folk-pop trappings, Norma Tanega was not an artist destined to stay at the top of the charts for long; her voice was unconventional, and her songs were too idiosyncratic, not.

Cat Named Dog, You're Dead, I'm The Sky, No Stranger Am I are my picks. I like what she stands for - and that is be true to yourself. Don't just dig in a parallel line, live and die in 4/4 time like everyone else/5(52).

Jan 14,  · The standout, though, is New York-based Israeli guitarist Dida Pelled's "Walkin' My Cat Named Dog," a cover of the late Norma Tanega's hit. Support The Stranger .

Jul 09,  · The Second Disc was able to take a listen to one of the label’s newly reissued limited-edition titles – Norma Tanega’s Walkin’ My Cat Named Dog – which returns to vinyl in a special bright-green color variant. Tanega’s folky ’60s pop has found new life on TV shows and compilations, but her debut has never been reissued on vinyl.
