This was Shostakovich's last work, completed about a month before his death. Because of his advanced and painful arthritis, as well as his unsteady hand and bad eyesight, the composer showed an increasing tendency to write sparsely scored orchestral compositions (Symphonies No. 14 and No. 15, for example) and many chamber pieces in his last years, finding their reduced scoring easier to manage.

Aug 19,  · Duo Viola Sonata op. 25/4 of , in this stylistic cycle go even further in its free treatment of traditional movement structure. It contrasts within the movements and the antithetically juxtaposed movements are further strengthened. The first movement of the Duo Sonata places an unusual emphasis on the piano's role, but the viola then takes.

Apr 08,  · Sonata in F, Op. 11, No. 4 () Viola and Piano. By Paul Hindemith. Schott. Softcover. 36 pages. Published by Schott. This sonata (nicknamed "11/4") is much more romantic than Hindemith's later work, and is the most performed of his works for viola and piano. Highlights include the hybrid theme and variations form which straddles the last two.

Hindemith presented his second Sonata for unaccompanied viola Op 25 No 1 at a concert in Cologne on 18 March Since he had leapt to prominence as Germany’s leading young composer, passed swiftly through a stage as an Expressionist enfant terrible and emerged—with his Kammermusik. series—as the leader of a neo-Baroque tendency, busily neoclassical, less concerned with beauty and.

Oct 31,  · Hindemith Op. 11, No. 4 By Meredith Kufchak. This sonata is so beautifully melodic and lyrical. One of my favorite parts of the piece is the theme at the beginning of the second movement, because the melody itself is so simple, but incredibly beautiful when played with the wonderful harmonies in the piano.
