Doors guitarist Robby Krieger wrote this, as well as most of the songs on The Soft Parade. He thought it was perfect for Jim Morrison to sing, but Morrison did not want to be associated with this song was because of the negative imagery in the lyrics. "Tell all the people get your guns," was the phrase that made Jim Morrison hate this song.

In fact, according to John Densmore's book "Riders on the storm", Morrison didn't want to sing it initially, because he diddn't want the people to think that he wanted them to "follow him with guns". Thus, the band stopped giving credits to each song to "The Doors" and gave them to the member who had come up originally with the melody or the lyric.

My new bargain of the year. Fantastic box set of all Doors studio albums. All are Bruce Botnik's 40th anniversary mixes and the cd's sound very, very good. Just goes to show how good the cd format can sound when a little care goes into making them. These were made in the EU and they sound very close to hi-rez/5().
