Cross Purposes contains a series of songs range from hard rock to heavy metal. It contains a more progressive album than their previous albums. Cross Purposes indicates the continuous experimentation and innovation Black Sabbath has produced in over two decades/5().

Cross Purposes could have been the ultimate Black Sabbath album. That may be a bold claim, but it combines members from several different eras together for perhaps the most promising lineup since Ronnie James Dio's days with the band.

When the hand that rocks the cradle, is the hand that holds the knife, And the knife that cuts the cable, kills the spark that feeds the life No grave could be deep enough, down to Hell if we were able, The veil of life was pushed aside, by the Hand that Rocks the Cradle .

I think ‘The Hand That Rocks The Cradle’ is terrible! If it’s true, I don’t blame Geezer for not wanting the Black Sabbath name on this album. To my ears it sounded like they wanted to stay on the 80’s scene four years too late.
